Associate
Matthias has been with ECA since 2012. As an Associate he has worked closely with our team for almost a decade as a designer and consultant acting as an advocate and expert for Cooperatives and Condominium Boards. Matthias has pushed the ECA designs into new realms spearheading and managing all of our competition entries.
Educated as an architect in Germany, Matthias moved to New York following graduation in 2000. Prior to joining ECA he was notably selected as one of 8 finalists for the World Trade Center Competition, and the first prize winner of the internationally open competition for the Africa Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. Concurrently with his architectural work he has realized public art installations throughout the country, and his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including venues such as Manifesta 8, Spain, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Romania, the Queens Museum, the Jule Collins Museum, and the Cape Cod Museum of Art, among others.
He is the recipient of the Kaplan Director's Award from the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and a fellow at Mac Dowell Colony, I-Park Foundation, and a recipient of the Think Swiss Fellowship. He has previously taught at New York University and New York Institute of Technology, and currently teaches construction technology as adjunct faculty at the Spitzer School of Architecture at the City College of New York.
