Ethelind Coblin founded the firm with Jennifer Judge in 1989. Ethelind is currently acting as the design principal overseeing and guiding all designs throughout the office. Though Ethelind’s time is now mostly spent overseeing design work she has a strong hand in guiding the office’s consulting work. For three decades Ethelind has worked very closely as an advocate and expert for Cooperative and Condominium Boards.  She is committed to ensuring her rich knowledge is passed onto the leadership and staff of eca.

Ms. Coblin is a registered architect in the states of New York and Connecticut and is a member of the American Institute of Architects where she served as president of AIA New York State. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kentucky. Ms. Coblin came to New York in 1977 where she worked for Robert A.M. Stern Architects, Johnson Burgee Architects and Fox & Fowle Architects, P.C. until she opened her own office.

Ms. Coblin is recognized for her dynamic, balanced approach to residential design. Her clients include Coops and Condos located both in Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs with projects such as facades, entrances, lobbies, hallway renovations and fitness centers. Her residences include both large scale work such as duplex apartment combinations, gut renovations, second homes in the country and smaller projects such as bathroom and kitchen renovations. She combines a love for pure line, elegance and innovation with an understanding of the underlying structural and systems requirements. She is an artist, a leader and a team player; she listens, interprets and creates elegant, timeless spaces. She is rigorous and true to her clients, drawing them in to the design and construction process.
